CHOOSE YOUR ECOMMERCE PACKAGE WISELY - YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS SUCCESS DEPENDS ON IT
 Quotable Quotes

Choosing an e-commerce solution can be a challenge no matter what type of business you're running. The technology and the industry changes so rapidly, which makes it tough to decide which package will meet your current and future needs. There are, however, a few things you can keep in mind when you're picking an e-commerce solution for your online business; we'll take a look at 5 things to consider before you take the plunge.

1. Easy Checkout

People who shop online want the same things as people who shop offline, and one of those things is convenience when it comes to making a purchase.

Your customers don't want to waste time trying to find out what items are in their shopping carts, or have to go through a hassle to remove and add items.

When it comes time to place the order, everything should be streamlined and simple to use. This is key when you're considering which e-commerce package you want to use on your site. Take a look at competitors who are using the package you're thinking of using and see how the checkout process operates. Is it easy to figure out? Is there a lot of going back and forth between pages? Are there enough shipping and payment options available, and are those options easy to find?

The checkout process will often make or break your sale. If people find it unsatisfying, they may just click away and go shopping someplace else, which is why you have to make sure this part of your e-commerce store works smoothly.

2. Customers' Security Assurance

If you are asking a customer to subscribe or type in their e-mail address, you want to make sure that they feel secure in doing so. Take a look at every call to action you use and make sure that the customers are assured that their privacy is protected and that their personal information is secure.

Also, be sure to make your contact information prominent on the site. Toll free numbers and e-mail addresses give shoppers the confidence that if anything should go wrong, your company can easily be reached. If you have any guarantees or return policies, make sure they're easy to find as well.

3. Customer Service

When choosing your e-commerce package, make sure that it contains elements like, vendor notifications about product updates or enhancements, technical support, and personalized service. A live chat is another element that can make your decision on which package to buy easier.

4. Incentives & Promotions

If you look at places like Amazon, you'll notice that the site remembers returning customers. They know what people have purchased in the past and automatically offer suggestions on future purchases and special discounts that are currently available.

When you're looking into an e-commerce package you should consider using some method that will reward people for repeat business. Also, if you do offer repeat customers special discounts, make sure that they're easy to put into the system. Bonuses, coupons and discounts are great tools for converting visitors into buyers, which is why you have to make their implementation as seamless as possible.

5. Security

The worry over identity theft is everywhere. There are ads all over TV, the radio and in newspapers about identity theft, and people who shop online are especially concerned about this problem because they're not in total control over their private information.

People trust you with their credit card information, e-mail addresses and physical addresses. The e-commerce package you choose has to have security as its number one feature. Make sure their security features are up-to-date and that the server, e-mail, and checkout systems are checked on a regular basis. If you can get a package that displays a security certificate like Thawte or Verizon, then do so.

Remember, all it takes is for one customer to become a victim of identity theft for your entire online business to fall apart. Make sure they're safe!

Remember, your e-commerce solution should be transparent. It should be so easy to use and intuitive that people don't even know it's there. Choose one that offers this ease of use, and proper customer security, and you'll have a business that's ready for success.
