What’s YOUR Website Colour?

Let’s start with some understanding. Think of the design of your favorite outfit, car, product, electronic device, or similar object. Imagine it in full detail. Think of the exact colour, shape, length, width, type of material, shiny, dull, etc. Now really take a minute to think about each of these qualities…
Which one of these categories would you say was the easiest to think of? Probably colour or shape right? That’s because colour and shape are some of the first things our minds have been trained to recognize, even since the days of cavemen!
Now, more than ever, research suggests that website colour schemes are being carefully chosen by everyone from the small startup, to large corporations to produce both powerful and subtle feelings. Unfortunately, many web designers and graphics designers didn’t realize what magic (or curse) they were holding when they designed the logos, websites, and designs that we see today.
Mood, Gender, & Colour, Oh My!

To be the most effective, depending on the audience, the specifics must be analyzed. Men tend to like colours such as green, blue, and black. Women are particularly fond of green, blue, and purple. You might be asking yourself what can colour REALLY do for your product, logo, or website?
Having warm colors such as orange, yellow, and brown implies enthusiasm, optimism, and happiness. The colours blue, green, purple, and pink are peaceful and relaxing. Knowing and applying this is extremely powerful!
Colour is the first thing that people see when interacting with a new website or product. Most business owners are unaware how their product, logo, or website colours have ANYTHING to do with the feeling that their customers get when they view or interact with these things.
The Achilles Heel
Imagine, in the split second that someone first views your brand, they are already receiving an intuitive feeling on both the conscious and subconscious level. If you’re not careful, you could be sending the wrong message!
If people, by nature are super tuned-in to the qualities of shapes and colors of objects, doesn’t it make sense that we should be paying attention to what colours are being used on our websites? We have been running blind just throwing colour all over the place trying to “liven things up.” Or even worse, we’ve kept things a little too monotonous with black and white. (Don’t worry, there’s hope for you yet!)
